IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING FREE CREDIT REPORTS

Under a new Federal law, you have the right to receive a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer reporting companies.  Below you will find information on how to obtain your credit report via the internet, telephone or mail.

Monitoring
It is recommended that you select only one of the three credit reporting agencies  (Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian) for your first report. Every four months or on a periodic basis thereafter,  request a copy from one of the two remaining credit reporting agencies (Trans Union, Equifax or  Experian).  You would then request your final free copy from the remaining agency in four months, then start the process all over again the following year.  This way you can monitor changes in your credit report over time and potentially identify problems and potential problems quicker and react to those problems immediately.

FREE CREDIT REPORT VIA THE INTERNET
To request your free annual report over the internet, you must go to www.annualcreditreport.com. Please note that
www.consumerInfo.com and www.freecreditreport.com are not affiliated with the annual free credit report program.

FREE CREDIT REPORT BY TELEPHONE
To process your request over the telephone you will need to verify and/or enter your name, current mailing address, social security number, and date of birth.  If you have moved during the past two years, you will need your previous address.

Getting Started

Call 1-877-322-8228, The automated phone system walks you through the various system prompts.   All responses may be spoken or entered by pressing a corresponding number on the telephones dial pad.  To respond with YES – say yes and/or press 1. To respond with NO – say no and/or press 2. You will also be asked if you are calling from your home telephone number for verification purposes.

The automated phone system asks you the following:

NOTE:  Enter in date of birth as 2-digit month, 2-digit day, and 4-digit year (00/00/0000).  For example: May 15, 1989 would be entered by pressing 05 15 1989

The phone system guides you through the process to order a report from any of the three major credit reporting agencies:

1.  Trans Union
2.  Equifax
3.  Experian

It is suggested that you order only one report during this call.

Safe Guarding Information
During the call you will be asked if you only wish to have the last four-digits of your social security number listed on the report.  It is highly recommended that you choose this option. In the event that your report is lost or stolen, it will alleviate your social security number being at risk.

Results
A copy of your free credit report will be sent to your current mailing address.  The report will be sent via standard delivery.  You do not have the option to request expedited delivery.

FREE CREDIT REPORT BY MAIL
Download, print and complete the request form following the directions provided on the form.  Clarity and attention to the instructions provided on the form are important.  (To download the form in a pdf file click here)

At the bottom of the form you are asked to select which credit reporting agencies you would like to receive your free report from.  You should select only one of the three and then complete this process again in four months and request a report from a different agency then do it again in four months and request a free copy from the final agency.  Then start the process all over again.  This way you can monitor changes in your credit report over time and potentially identify problems and potential problems quicker and react to those problems immediately.

Be sure to shade the question at the bottom right of the form that states that you want only the last four digits of your social security number listed on the report.  You should choose this option so that if your report is stolen in the mail your social security number is not at risk.

Mail the completed form to the address listed on the top portion of the form. You may receive a letter from the credit reporting agency to verify some information about you or to seek more information.
