Monitoring
It is recommended that you select only one of the three credit reporting agencies (Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian) for your first report. Every four months or on a periodic basis thereafter, request a copy from one of the two remaining credit reporting agencies (Trans Union, Equifax or Experian). You would then request your final free copy from the remaining agency in four months, then start the process all over again the following year. This way you can monitor changes in your credit report over time and potentially identify problems and potential problems quicker and react to those problems immediately.
Getting Started
Call 1-877-322-8228, The automated phone system walks you through the various system prompts. All responses may be spoken or entered by pressing a corresponding number on the telephones dial pad. To respond with YES – say yes and/or press 1. To respond with NO – say no and/or press 2. You will also be asked if you are calling from your home telephone number for verification purposes.
The automated phone system asks you the following:
- Name
- Have you lived two years or long at your present address?
- Social security number
- Date of Birth
NOTE: Enter in date of birth as 2-digit month, 2-digit day, and 4-digit year (00/00/0000). For example: May 15, 1989 would be entered by pressing 05 15 1989
The phone system guides you through the process to order a report from any of the three major credit reporting agencies:
1. Trans Union
2. Equifax
3. ExperianIt is suggested that you order only one report during this call.
Safe Guarding Information
During the call you will be asked if you only wish to have the last four-digits of your social security number listed on the report. It is highly recommended that you choose this option. In the event that your report is lost or stolen, it will alleviate your social security number being at risk.
